I don't know if you have a Redbox in your area. Redbox resembles a convenience machine but instead of vending chips, candy and soda the vend the latest movies and games. You can rent up to 3 movies at a time it it only cost $1 per movie for a 24 hour rental period. Now this is great but there are several problems with this system that you simply don't encounter with the Roku XDS streaming device.

Problem #1: Redbox limits you to the number of movies that you can rent at one time. So if you want to have a movie marathon at your home that night you will be forced to do so in chunks. You can stream an unlimited amount of movies through Roku as long as you have a Netflix account or you can do so per video through Amazon video.

Problem #2: There's an awful convenience of having to go pick up the movies from Redbox and having the pressure of returning them by 9:00 the next evening or be charged an additional fee. Therefore if you rent the Redbox movies and for some reason don't get around to watching them during the time you intended you will either have to return them unwatched or pay additional fees.

Problem #3: Redbox can only hold so many movies and the most popular movies are often rented when you want to watch them. In order to ensure that you will be able to watch the movie you wanted you have to reserve the movies online and then go and pick them up. With Roku you can stream the latest blockbuster movies instantly.
